VENEZUELA: Electoral talks suffer setback

Less than a week after a negotiated agreement to appoint a new electoral council (CNE) in Venezuela [WR-20-09] – a rare (albeit tentative) step forward in the struggle for a peaceful solution to the country’s political crisis – these fledgling hopes of democratic progress were put in stark perspective on 6 March by a fire that destroyed the majority of the country’s electronic voting infrastructure.
