PANAMA | Government optimistic on growth. On 5 March Panama’s deputy finance minister Jorge Luis Almengor said the government led by President Laurentino Cortizo expected Panama’s economy to grow by between 3.5% and 4.0% in 2020, despite the global threat posed by coronavirus. He said that last year growth was 3.0%, although he highlighted that growth in the fourth quarter was 3.3% year-on-year while the third quarter registered 2.7% growth, the second, 2.9% and the first, 3.1%.
