Richard Martínez,has confirmed that the country will receive US$80m in financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), in response to the country’s
financial crisis caused by falling oil prices and the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Martínez said the funds will be spent on “
equipping hospitals and intensive care units, and improving health infrastructure”. Ecuador’s President
Lenín Moreno has also called a meeting of the Foro para el Progreso y Desarrollo de América del Sur (Prosur) group of eight Latin American countries, to discuss a co-ordinated response to the pandemic.
