In brief: Colombian peso hits new low

* The Colombian peso has traded at Col$4,079/US$1 on 16 March, a new all-time low for the currency. Emerging market currencies around the world have been hit hard by the financial downturn caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and falling global oil prices. The Colombian stock exchange’s Colcap index closed the day down 15.03%, with airline Avianca Holdings (down 28.42%) and state-owned oil company Ecopetrol (down 11.08%) amongst those hit hardest.
