As the world continues to grapple with the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, South American countries have taken the first steps towards developing a coordinated regional response to the emergency. Heads of state from the recently created Foro para el Progreso de América del Sur (Prosur) regional forum have agreed to work together to contain the spread of the disease and protect their populations. Developing a regional strategy may prove to be critical for dealing with this global threat. But despite this positive initial step it will be a huge challenge for Prosur members to agree upon a comprehensive common strategy that can be successfully adopted and implemented by all countries in the sub-continent.
