The declaration of a final result in Guyana’s disputed 2 March general elections is no closer. President David Granger of the ruling A Partnership for National Unity-Alliance for Change (Apnu-AFC) coalition reached an agreement with the leader of the main opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), former president Bharrat Jagdeo (1999-2011), on 16 March for a national vote recount to be carried out after discussions with the chairwoman of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) and Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley. But the following day a High Court judge granted an injunction against the Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) preventing it from carrying out a recount.
