URUGUAY: Unions put pressure on gov’t over Covid-19 response

On the evening of 25 March, ‘cacerolazos’ (pots-and-pans protests) could be heard across Uruguay’s capital Montevideo, at the initiative of the umbrella trade union Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores-Convención Nacional de Trabajadores (Pit-CNT) which is demanding that the government do more to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the country.
