COLOMBIA​: Duque’s tactics drive discontent

President Iván Duque was forced to declare a national ‘prisons emergency’ after the Colombian prison service (Inpec) drew significant criticism for its violent suppression of protests in prisons across the country on the night of 21 March. These demonstrations were the latest manifestation of a widespread discontent with Duque’s strategy for dealing with the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
