ARGENTINA: No end in sight for economic angst

The paralysis in global economic activity and turmoil in financial markets produced by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is exacerbating concerns about Argentina’s economy. In such an adverse scenario the prospects of Argentina returning to economic growth in the medium term are dim and this further complicates the attempts by the government led by President Alberto Fernández to renegotiate the country’s onerous debt. Failure to seal a broad debt renegotiation agreement could lead to Argentina once again defaulting on its debts and plunging into an even deeper economic hole.
