In brief: Brazil’s GDP expected to contract this year

* Market analysts surveyed weekly by Brazil’s central bank (BCB) for its Focus bulletin now expect that the country’s GDP will contract by 0.48% in 2020. In the previous weekly bulletin, GDP forecasts stood at 1.48% growth for 2020, down from 2.17% a month ago. The Brazilian government slashed its 2020 GDP projections from 2.1% to 0.02% earlier this month, in reaction to the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
