In brief: No sign of recovery for Brazilian real

* The Brazilian real has reached another new low against the US dollar, closing the day at R$5.26/US$1 yesterday (1 April), while the index for the São Paulo stock exchange (Bovespa) fell almost 3%. The US dollar appreciated 16% against the real in the month of March alone, while the Bovespa index accumulated losses of 30% during this period, as investors migrated away from emerging markets and towards safer assets in the midst of the crisis caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
