In brief: Peru offers emergency business loans

* The Peruvian government has launched the ‘Reactiva Perú’ loan programme, providing PEN$30bn (US$8.69bn) in credit to help businesses fulfil payment obligations to employees and suppliers, during the quarantine period imposed to tackle the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Produciton Minister Rocío Barrios reported that approximately 265,000 businesses have already signed up to the programme, and she emphasised the importance of maintaining the “chain of payments”, so that one company’s insolvency doesn’t have knock-on effects for its business partners, or prevent its employees from receiving wages owed.
