* The United Nations (UN) and World Health Organization (WHO) have delivered a 90-tonne shipment of medical supplies to Venezuela to help tackle the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to
Peter Grohmann, the UN humanitarian co-ordinator in Venezuela, the shipment includes personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilators, paediatric beds, and water treatment kits,
“to be distributed in health centres and in the most vulnerable communities”. The supplies were funded by the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund, as well as by international donors.
Mark Green, director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), said that the US government had contributed a donation,
having previously faced criticism from the UN for maintaining economic sanctions against Venezuela during the pandemic.
