* A study carried out by Chile’s national chamber of commerce, services & tourism (CNC) has revealed the severity of the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on the country’s businesses. Of 569 companies surveyed by the CNC between 2 and 8 April, some 216 (38%) have had to lay off workers, and 379 (66%) report they are operating at less than 25% capacity (of these, almost half have had to close entirely). Of the companies surveyed, 90% expect to see a fall in sales for the second quarter, of which half expected a drop of over 50%.
