HONDURAS: Anti-corruption groups warn of another epidemic

Last month the international anti-corruption NGO Transparency International (TI) warned about “serious corruption risks in the region’s emergency response” to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, singling out the public procurement system. These concerns would seem to have materialised in Honduras: last week the national anti-corruption council (CNA), a civil-society umbrella group, presented a report which found that medical supplies and equipment had been purchased at inflated prices. The attorney general’s office (AG) has also announced an investigation into government procurements undertaken to address Covid-19.
