HAITI: Reopening textile sector sows new fears

As of 20 April, textile factories in Haiti able to ensure social distancing and meet other requirements aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) resumed operations. Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe’s announcement regarding the reopening of a crucial sector in the country raised eyebrows, however, amid concerns that the worst of the outbreak (which has resulted in 76 confirmed cases and six deaths to date) has yet to come.
