In brief: Peru’s exports hit hard by Covid-19

* Peru’s association of exporters (Adex) has reported that national exports totalled US$2.175bn in March, down 40.7% compared with the same month in 2019. Adex president, Erik Fisher, attributed thie fall to “the stoppage of production activities” as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and notes that the hardest hit sectors were non-metallic mining (down 66.9%) and fishing (down 60%). As a result, exports in the first quarter of 2020 fell by 15.8% year-on-year, totalling US$9.205bn.
