In brief: Mexico’s central bank warns of job losses

* Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) has estimated that around 700,000 jobs had been lost in Mexico by the end of April due to the impact of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, according to minutes from a meeting of Banxico’s governing board. The minutes reveal that Banxico's board believes that the principal danger Mexico is facing is of “short term job losses that can’t be recovered in the medium term, condemning a proportion of the population to a situation of structural poverty”.
