Fujimori capitalises on Peru’s coronavirus prison crisis

Peru’s most high-profile prisoner, Keiko Fujimori, was released from pre-trial detention for the second time in six months on 4 May. Also for the second time, this time in the space of just six weeks, the director of Peru’s prison system (Inpe) resigned after violent prison riots over fear of the rapid spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country’s overcrowded jails. Fujimori’s lawyer successfully made the case that she was at risk of contracting Covid-19.
