In brief: Mexico sees over half a million jobs lost in April

* Mexico’s social security institute (IMSS) has released figures according to which 555,247 formal workers lost their job in April, largely due to the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. This represents a –2.7% monthly variation in the number of jobs registered by the IMSS. The IMSS also notes that the number of registered employers had fallen by 6,689 to the end of April, with just over 1m employers registered with the IMSS as of 30 April.
