In brief: Researchers warn of impact of quarantine on Argentina’s economy

* Two Argentine economists have estimated that the first 42 days of national quarantine during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic have cost the Argentine economy US$8.4bn in losses. Professors Juan Mario Jorrat and Pablo Agustín Pero, who head up an ongoing study that provides an estimation of the country’s economic activity by sector, the composite index of economic activity (ICAE), also estimated that economic activity in April fell by 2.3% month-on-month.
