In brief: Production declines sharply in Peru

* Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has announced that total national production fell by 16.26% year-on-year in March, reportedly the first time in over ten years that production in the country has declined, and the worst monthly performance in at least 30 years. These figures were attributed to the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on productive sectors, with retail sales down 6.97%, export demand down 23.75%, and public investment in construction down 46.28%.
