* Peru’s President
Martín Vizcarra has announced that the second phase of the country’s
economic reactivation strategy will begin in the first week of June. Under pressure to balance the effects of economic paralysis against the
still-growing death toll from coronavirus (Covid-19), Vizcarra declared that mandatory social isolation has been extended until 30 June, but that a second group of economic activities, including e-commerce and delivery services, will be allowed to resume very soon. Economy & Finance Minister
María Antonieta Alva reported that this second phase will bring a further 1.4m people back to work, and take economic production up to 84% of pre-quarantine levels (compared with 70% in the first phase of reactivation, and just 44% under full quarantine).
