Jovenel Moïse has announced new measures to stop the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Haiti. These include the order that at any one time, there should be a maximum of 20% of public administration officials in offices. The announcement comes as new Covid-19 cases in the country continue to rise. As of 3 June, the total number of cases registered was 2,507, up from 1,320 a week earlier, with 281 new cases registered over the previous 24 hours. On 21 May the government extended a state of emergency for a further two months and made it mandatory to wear face masks. However, the previous month the government had announced the reopening of textiles factories, if they are able to ensure social distancing and meet other requirements aimed at containing the spread of the virus.
