MEXICO: Water shortages could exacerbate pandemic

A group of experts from the United Nations (UN) has warned that the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic will not be controlled unless governments around the world ensure that people have access to clean water. This is a stark warning for the Mexican authorities. Mexico has grappled with water shortages and problems with supplying drinking water to large sections of its population for years. The result of poor water management, lack of investment in distribution systems, neglect, and corruption, these problems are once again coming into focus, raising concerns that they could severely undermine Mexico’s ability to control its Covid-19 outbreak.
