In brief: Colombia’s industrial production decreases in April

* Colombia’s national statistics institute (Dane) has released the latest figures for its industrial production index (IPI), which show that industrial production fell by 29.6% in April, compared with April 2019. Three of the four industrial production sectors saw a significant decrease, with the manufacturing industry falling by 35.8% year-on-year; mining activities falling by 29.6%; and electricity and gas supply decreasing by 12.8%. Only the water treatment and distribution sector saw a positive variation of 2.2%. Similarly, 24 of the 26 industrial activities surveyed registered a negative performance in April. Overall, the IPI registered a 7.7% decrease in January-April 2020 compared with the same period in 2019.
