In brief: UK elected as G2G partner for Peru infrastructure initiative

* Peru’s President Martín Vizcarra has announced that the United Kingdom (UK) has been elected as partner on a government to government (G2G) infrastructure reconstruction project that follows the damage caused in Peru by the ‘El Niño’ climate phenomenon in 2017. In a press briefing, Vizcarra said that the Autoridad para la Reconstrucción con Cambios (ARCC), Peru’s emergency authority tasked with the project, had concluded its negotiations, which lasted five months, and congratulated the UK for “taking on an enormous responsibility.” Following Vizcarra’s announcement, ARCC executive director, Amalia Moreno Vizcardo, revealed that through this initiative, PEN$7bn (US$2bn) will be invested over the next two years in construction projects including 74 schools and educational facilities, 15 hospitals and health centres, as well as 17 river defence mechanisms.
