In brief: World Bank approves urban water access loan for Honduras

* The World Bank (WB) has approved a US$45m loan to improve access to safe drinking water to 360,000 homes in Honduras’s small and medium-sized cities. The project aims to improve water quality and infrastructure and increase the hours per day that water is available. The loan also includes a fund to aid Honduras’s coronavirus (Covid-19) response by supplying water and subsidising the tariffs that vulnerable groups and low-income families pay urban water providers. Finance Minister Rocío Tábora highlighted that the project will “help to reduce the risk of disease transmission, stimulate the economy with investment in construction, and by doing so, generate employment”.
