In brief: Mixed results for production in Peru

* Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has reported that potato production increased by 12.2% in April compared with the same month in 2019, reaching a total of 1.13m tonnes. Cacao production also grew by 10%, reflecting the strong performance of the agricultural sector despite the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Other sectors, however, have been hit much harder, with Inei reporting a 34.7% reduction in copper production in April, and a 29.5% drop in electricity production, as quarantine restrictions reduced operating capacities in mines and power plants.
