In brief: IMF slashes Mexico’s GDP forecast

* The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released its latest World Economic Outlook growth projections, which forecast that Mexico’s GDP will shrink by 10.5% in 2020, as a result of the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. This is down from the IMF’s previous (April 2020) projection of a 3.9% contraction. Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador described the forecast as “very pessimistic”, citing “real, objective data” which led him to be “optimistic” of a “prompt recovery”.
