GUYANA: Venezuela border dispute goes to ICJ

An oral hearing into Guyana’s long-running border controversy with Venezuela began in the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICJ) on 30 June. It is not the most auspicious time for such a momentous hearing to start for Guyana, with the country mired in an electoral controversy which is shaking its democratic foundations, but it has assembled a crack team of international lawyers that it hopes can obtain a favourable result.
