In brief: Canadian firm announces investment in Mexico

* Canadian vehicle maker Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) has announced that it will invest CA$185m (some US$136m) in a new manufacturing facility in the Mexican city of Juárez, Chihuahua state – the first investment announced since the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade deal took effect on 1 July. In a statement, BRP said it expects the facility, which will be used to produce off-road vehicles, will create 1,000 permanent jobs. Site planning and construction is set to commence within the next few months and begin operating in late 2021. Following the announcement, Chihuahua Governor Javier Corral Jurado told the local press via videoconference that it was great news in the midst of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and that it was an “enormous sign of foreign investor confidence in Chihuahua state”.
