In brief: Colombia reports further deflation

* Colombia’s national statistics institute (Dane) has released the country’s latest inflation figures, showing monthly deflation of 0.38% in June. This represents the second consecutive month of deflation, driven by reduced consumer demand and purchasing power as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Dane noted that this brings annual inflation down to 2.19% (the lowest figure recorded since January 2014), falling well below the 3.43% reported in June 2019. Dane director, Juan Daniel Oviedo, reported that the only spending divisions to register positive inflation were health products, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco.
