In brief: After two months of deflation, Brazil sees inflation in June

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for the national consumer price index (IPCA) which show that monthly inflation stood at 0.26% in June. This interrupts two consecutive months of deflation and brings annual inflation to 2.13% in June. The Ibge notes that June inflation was driven by an increase in fuel prices, after four consecutive months of tumbling prices, while prices in the food and drinks sector continued to increase, reflecting sustained demand from households as people continue to spend more time at home and some quarantine measures have remained in place in the context of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
