In brief: Peru approves transfer of funds for jobs programme

* The Peruvian government has approved the transfer of PEN30.83m (US$8.6m) from the ‘Trabaja Perú’ jobs programme to various public sector organisations, in order to finance 60 investment projects that would generate “inclusive social employment”. This is in line with ‘Arranca Perú’ - the government’s plan announced on 15 June to revive the economy, which has been hit hard by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and create over 1m jobs by the end of 2020. The ‘Trabaja Perú’ scheme aims to provide temporary employment for those of working age (18 and over) who are in poverty, extreme poverty, or who have been impacted by natural disasters or other emergencies. This employment is generated through financing basic social and economic infrastructure projects, and supports the unskilled labour workforce in Peru.
