* The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has begun distributing humanitarian aid to Venezuela after
brokering an agreement last month between
Nicolás Maduro’s government and the opposition led by
Juan Guaidó to cooperate in their response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The aid includes surgical masks, breathing masks, insulation masks, protective safety lenses, and hospital gowns. According to Guaidó’s health representative
Julio Castro, PAHO has donated aid to every hospital in Venezuela
using international funds, and also provided Venezuela with logistical support, prioritising aid distribution in the areas of the country which have the most coronavirus cases. However, he warned that
“it is not enough, more is needed”.
