Pension reform likely to be approved with widespread support

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented new proposals for reforming the national pension system on 22 July. The reform bill is due to be discussed by the federal congress once it resumes sessions in September. It seeks to increase the average pension so that pay outs are closer to the worker’s final salary in order to provide a dignified retirement to as many people as possible and to ensure the system has sufficient resources to pay workers.
