* Brazil’s national supplies company (Conab), which is linked to the ministry of agriculture (Mapa), has released a new report which forecasts that there will be a 0.1% contraction in sugar cane production in the 2020/2021 harvest period relative to the 2019/2020 period, indicating a total production of 642.1m tonnes. The report forecasts that the southeast region, the country’s main sugar cane producing area, will produce 412.4m tonnes, 0.6% less than in the previous harvest, although other areas will compensate for this drop.
