In brief: Brazil sees positive job creation in July

* Brazil’s economy ministry has released the July results for the national employment registry (Novo Caged), according to which there was a positive balance of 131,010 new jobs in the formal sector across the country – the first time since February that there have been more jobs created than jobs lost, as the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic took its toll on the labour market from March onwards. Overall, July saw 1.04m hirings and 912,640 dismissals, bringing the stock of formal jobs to around 37.7m. Economy Minister Paulo Guedes celebrated this positive result for July, noting that it is an “excellent signal that the economy can make a return”
