In brief: No taxes on solar energy in Brazil, says Bolsonaro

* Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has repeated that he does not support taxing solar energy, a position he had already adopted in January this year amid discussions with the national electricity agency (Aneel) on a possible solar tax and the phasing out of subsidies implemented in 2012 to encourage the production of solar energy. “The sun will not be taxed,” Bolsonaro said while inaugurating a solar park in the mid-western state of Goiás on 29 August. The solar park in Caldas Novas, which belongs to the diRoma hotel group, has an installed capacity of 5.6 MWp, which the government says will provide energy to the equivalent of 4,265 families, and over 20 years will save 12,053 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.
