* Brazil’s federation of automobile dealers (Fenabrave) has announced that vehicle sales increased by 7.35% in August compared with July, with 299,627 units sold in the country (including cars, buses, lorries, and motorcycles). Year-on-year sales were down by 13.7% in August, the smallest year-on-year drop since the start of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, while overall sales in 2020 so far were down 31% on sales in January-August 2019.
Alarico Assumpção Júnior, president of Fenabrave, noted that the monthly increase in the August results – despite there being two working days less than in July – point towards the automobile industry beginning to return to higher volumes, and adjusting to a
“new normal”.
