* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest industrial production figures, which show that industrial production increased by 8% in July compared with June. This is the third consecutive month of growth, after industrial production plunged by 27% in March-April, as a consequence of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the measures taken to contain it. The coordinator of the Ibge’s survey,
André Macedo, noted that industrial production has seen important growth since May, but that this recovery remains insufficient to reverse the losses suffered at the height of Covid-19 lockdown measures. Industrial production has accumulated a negative result of -9.6% in the first seven months of 2020, with a 3% year-on-year fall in July.
