In brief: Vehicle sales slump in Mexico

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released new figures which show that 77,092 cars were sold in August, a 28.66% drop on August 2019. The Inegi figures show that 586,410 cars were sold in the first eight months of 2020, down 31.39% on the same period in 2019. Car production also slumped, with 293,463 new vehicles produced in August, down 13.15% on August 2019, while 1.76m vehicles were produced in the first eight months of 2020, a 32.6% drop on the same period in 2019. Car exports were also down, with 257,610 cars exported in July, down 8.59% on July 2019, while over the eight-month period, 1.5m cars were exported, a 33.37% drop on the same period in 2019.
