COLOMBIA: Uribe case puts Duque under the spotlight

Senator Iván Cepeda, of the left-wing Polo Democrático Alternativo (PDA), has been a nemesis of influential former president Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010) since the early years of Uribe’s rule, as one of the foremost voices in the fight against paramilitarism in Colombia. The developing legal case against Uribe [WR-20-32], increasingly focused on allegations of the former president’s alleged complicity in paramilitary violence, represents something of a triumph for Cepeda over his old rival - and has brought Colombia’s current government, led by Uribe’s protégé President Iván Duque, into the crossfire.
