COLOMBIA: Hidroituango dam project gets new board of directors

The beleaguered Hidroituango hydroelectric dam project, based in Colombia’s Antioquia department, was dealt yet another blow on 12 August, when the entire board of directors of Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), the state-owned utility company responsible for the project, sent a letter to the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, announcing their resignation. This came a few days after Quintero had revealed that he would be taking legal action to claim Col$9.9bn (US$2.63m) in compensation from the project’s builders, designers, and financial backers, over a 2018 disaster at the site.
