The Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo (EPP) insurgent guerrilla group has struck back. Days after two suspected underage members of the group were controversially killed during an operation by the security forces, it has abducted a former vice president. This is the most high-profile kidnapping by the EPP since the emergence of the group in 2008 and the first to take place under the Asociación Nacional Republicana-Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) government led by President Mario Abdo Benítez.
