In brief: Production value of Brazilian agriculture on the up

* Brazil’s Confederação da Agricultura e Pecuária (CNA) agriculture and livestock confederation estimates that the sector’s gross production value (known as VBP) will increase by 13.7% in 2020 and reach a new record of R$823.3bn (US$157bn). The value of agricultural production is expected to increase 18% on last year, driven by a record VBP of R$218bn for soya, with the CNA noting that the agricultural VBP will be influenced by a 4.3% increase in production, and an 18.7% increase in prices, along with high demand from China and the devaluation of the real against the US dollar. The value of livestock production is expected to increase 6.6% on last year.
