NICARAGUA: Drug money seizures raises eyebrows

In recent weeks there have been a string of major seizures of drug money by the Nicaraguan national police (PNN). The government led by President Daniel Ortega highlights that these form part of its ‘Muro de Contención’ (‘containment wall’) strategy that seeks to fight organised crime, money laundering, people trafficking and other connected crimes. However, investigative media question what happens to the confiscated money, while pointing out that cocaine seizures have fallen.
