In brief: Costa Rica registers slight improvement in unemployment

* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures which show the national unemployment rate stood at 23.2% in the June-August 2020 rolling quarter. While this is an increase of 11.8 percentage points on the same period in 2019, it marks an improvement on the May-July 2020 rolling quarter when it stood at 24.4%. The improvement reflects the impact of reopening the economy in August which was shut down to stop the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
