Brazil: On 9 October, the US Department of Commerce announced affirmative preliminary determinations in the antidumping duty (AD) investigations of imports of common alloy aluminium sheet from Brazil and 17 other countries, marking the “
the broadest US trade enforcement action in two decades”, according to Commerce Secretary
Wilbur Ross. As a result of these decisions, the Department of Commerce will instruct US Customs and Border protection (CBP) to collect cash deposits from importers of common alloy aluminium sheet from these countries, in accordance with the dumping rates published by the Department of Commerce. Brazil would suffer the second-highest rate of all 18 countries, with tariffs ranging from 49.48% to 136.78%. If these determinations are affirmative, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) will make its final injury determination on 5 April 2021, when, if approved, the measures will come into force. In 2019, US imports of common alloy aluminium sheet from Brazil were valued at US$97m.
